Mallorie Chernin, Choral Society guru, recalls this about the history of the Mads:

"Don't know if there was a Madrigal group prior to the year I started it, but I started the group in 1985. During the academic year 85/86 Jonathan Hirsh was the choral assistant, and Madrigals director. After that, we started to have student directors. At one point, don't remember the date, the Madrigals were an independent group, that is, not part of Choral Society. That was short lived, as the group was aware that there were more advantages and opportunities to being part of the Choral Society. We've peacefully co-existed ever since."
